Detail
Korea Post is issuing postage stamps that introduce four tourist destinations, each featuring a walking trail with scenic views. The Olle Trails of Jeju Island were developed as hiking trails for travelers after locals selected some of the best paths on the island. The trails feature 21 courses connected to one another, and they include paths along beaches, up mountains, and through fields. Because the Jeju Olle trails offer such breath-taking views of Jejus unique landscape, they have become a national sensation in recent years, attracting numerous travelers from far and wide. In Gangwon-do Province, the Woljeongsa Jeonnamu (fir) Forest Trail is a scenic walk from Iljumun Gate of renowned 1000-year-old Woljeongsa Temple to Geumgang Bridge in Pyeongchang. Though the trail itself runs a mere kilometer, it is surrounded by a thick forest of more than 1,800 fir trees over 80 years old that keep the air fresh. Because the fir forest has protected the temple for more than 1,000 years, the trail is often referred to as the forest trail of a thousand years. The Hadong Simri (10-ri) Cherry Blossom Road is a 6-kilometer path from Hwagae Market to Ssanggyesa Temple. Developed originally in the 1930s, the path is lined by some 1,200 cherry trees aged between 50 and 70 years. Every April, the road becomes a spectacular white tunnel as the trees come into full bloom. The road is also referred to as Hollye-gil (meaning wedding trail) as some believe that a young couple walking along the trail will grow old together. Yeongdeok Blue Road is a hiking trail winding along the picturesque coastline of Yeongdeok. From Snow Crab Park, the trail stretches to the Wind Farm, Sunrise Park, Chuksan Port, and to Goraebul Beach. The 64.6-kilometer Blue Road is ideal for tourists as it connects many attractions of Yeongdeok. The most popular section is the B Course, the Path of Blue Snow Crabs, which takes visitors from Sunrise Park to Chuksan Port through the Cradle of the Yeongyang Nam Family. For its scenic views, the B course is often called a fantastic oceanside path.
