`Following the May 16th Revolution which aimed at saving the Republic of Korea from the communist invasion and best overcoming the national crises resulted from political corruption and poverty, the nation elected the President and members of the National Assembly for the new Republic through the general elections conducted on October 15 and November 26, 1963, respectively. The 5th President of the Republic of Korea thus elected will be sworn into office giving birth at the same time to the third Republic and forming a sound foundation towards true democracy and economic stability.
In order to celebrate this historical occasion, the commemorative postage stamp will be issued on the inauguration day for the 5th President of the Republic of Korea.`
