`In order to have plants of Korea more familarized to the public and purported to help popularization of stamp collection, this Administration, for the first time, issues postage stamp of plant series on the 15th of each month, which will be composed of 12 kinds in 1965. The Pinus densiflora SIEBOLD & ZUCCARINI, academic name of pine tree, is adopted for the first series of it. The pine Tree is always remembered particularly in Korea as symbol of good faith and constancy by its evergreen and long live perenial tree which is the most popular nature noticed wherever one may go around in the country, and furthermore it has been the most usual subject materialized in paintings and peoms. It is also that the pine tree has a close connection with the manners and custom of the people; for example, its needles are used to add the fragrant flavor in making Song-pyon, a traditional rice cake stuffed with bean-jam, chiefly prepared for at the occasion of Chu-suk, thanksgiving day in Korea, and yellow cake named Dashik is made of its yellow pollen used commonly at the ceremony of happy and funeral event. The pine tree, botanically, belonging to Pinaceae Family is surrounded with the red brown bark and its needle, 5 or 7 cm in length, buds up in a couple at a place of branch. The yellow male flowers blossom in a lump beneath of the purple female flower on the base of sprout in May which is grayish brown. The egg like pine cone ripens next autumn and it contains winged seeds can be easily flew to wind. The timber of pine tree are widely used not only for construction, making furniture and firewood, but also the pine rosin is indispensable for production of rosin oil and other important products.`
