Detail
`May 10th 1966 marks the 20th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of Korea. The Girl Scouts Movement in Korea was begun in the spring of 1946 by a group of women under the advocacy of Doctoress So-je Han, following the spirit of the Girl Scouts organized in England by Lord Baden Powell which spread rapidly throughout the world. The Girl Scouts of Korea was recognized as a Tenderfoot Member of the world Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts at the 16th world Conference which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1957. The Gril Scouts plays a role of bridge between the school and home through providing social education to produce model citizens useful to the society, service to others, instilling powers of self-reliance, and promoting international friendship as its objects. To realize these objects, it undertakes various social activities against illiteracy, demonstrates and encourages the better way of living, while internationally, it also endeavors to promote lasting friendship and understanding of girls of other lands through letter writing and mutual exchange of information and visits. The Girl Scouts of Korea has made a ceaseless progress during its 20 years of Scouting and as a result Korea, together with Australia, was awarded the Walter Donald Rose Trophy, being recognized at the 1963 world conference as model country that contributed meritorious good turn to their country. The Ministry of Communications issues the postage stamp in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Girl Scout movement in Korea and wishing its continued progress in brightening our home and social life by guiding the girls towards even better citizenship.`
