`On May 10, 1971, the Korean Federation of Girl Scouts observes the 25th anniversary of its founding. The girl scout was first founded in England by Sir Baden Powell in 1910 as an educational institution designed to help girls in their character building and to promote the spirit of social service among them. Ever since, the organization has continued to mark constant expansion and development, and at present it boasts a worldwide membership of more than 6,500,000 representing as many as 90 countries throughout the world. The Girl Scouts of Krea was established in 1946, and later was admitted to the World Federation of Girl Scouts as an associate member in 1957. It finally succeeded in becoming its official member in 1963 at the 18th General Conference of the World Federation. For more than 20 years, the Girl Scouts of Korea has achieved remarkable progress and development, overcoming numerous difficulties and trials. At present, about 30,000 of its members are actively participating in various social activities throughout the country. Under the motto, ``Let us be prepared, both mentally and technically, to help others,`` the girl scout is encouraged to exert herself for the enhancement of character, strengthening of physical fitness and strength, acquisition of useful techniques and skills, and promotion of the spirit of public service and patriotism. All members undergo an intensive training course on their own in accordance with a prefixed scheduls in order to become fine citizens of the country. For this end, they always keep the following peldges closely in mind: `` I hereby swear on oath to: 1. Do my might and main for God and my country 2. Help others always and 3. Live up firmly to the rules of conduct of the girl scouts.`` The Ministry of Communications is to issue a commemorative postage stamp on this occasion in the hope that the girl scout movement in our country will be widely publicized both at home and abroad, and that a great number of fine women dedicated to social service will turn out in succession.`
